Whales Fall Short at Newark, 4-3
|
The Newark Pepper had to overcome a fine effort from Chicago pitcher Bill Powell to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Arnold Park. Powell went 11 innings and allowed 3 runs. The Pepper, at 28-37, sit in 7th place in the Federal League.
Coming to the plate with two out in the bottom of the 13th inning, Newark third baseman Ballplayer Baxter had a chance to be the hero. Facing Chicago pitcher Bull Wagner with runners on 1st and 2nd, Baxter hit a walk-off run-scoring single.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Baxter.
