Rebels Beat Packers, 5-1
|
The Pittsburgh Rebels stymied the Kansas City Packers, 5-1, at Exposition Park. Mal Barry had a good day at the plate. He was 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Pittsburgh. Fred Trautman picked up the win, improving his season record to 11-3. He struck out 1 in 9 innings. With the win, Pittsburgh raised its record to 39-34.
Also having an impact was catcher Matthew Whitmore, who stroked a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the fourth for Pittsburgh. For the game, Whitmore went 1 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while scoring 2 runs.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Whitmore, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
