On Road, Chicago Beats Pittsburgh, 7-6
|
Exposition Park was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Chicago Whales and Pittsburgh Rebels.
The Chicago Whales beat the Pittsburgh Rebels, 7-6, at Exposition Park. The Whales got a fine performance from left fielder Red Corriden, who was 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Floyd Mickey went 8.2 innings for Chicago to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 6 runs. He scattered 11 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record improves to 17-7.
Chicago right fielder Chester Emerson contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the sixth. With two down, he hit a changeup into left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 105th hit of the season and put the Whales ahead, 4-2.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Corriden said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Whales lead the Federal League by 2 games.
