Rebels Win, 6-1
|
The Chicago Whales and Pittsburgh Rebels met at Wrigley Field to settle a score.
The Pittsburgh Rebels picked up a win at Wrigley Field, taking down the Chicago Whales, 6-1. Starting pitcher Fred Trautman was a big reason why. The win gives Pittsburgh a season record of 63-58.
The Whales had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Rebels going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the speedster Gus Getz came to the plate. Getz hit a 2-run double on a 3-1 sinker from Chicago hurler Bill Powell. It was Getz's 21st double of the year.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Getz. "I just want to win ballgames."
