Packers Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Brooklyn Tip-Tops got a sterling performance from pitcher Harris Sutton, but the Kansas City Packers still prevailed, 2-1. Sutton threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Kansas City reliever Rip Hagerman got the win, raising his record to 11-13. Mike Prendergast was tagged with the loss. Kansas City, at 75-76, occupies 7th place in the Federal League.
With runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the ninth, Dick Gossett delivered the knockout blow when he hit a run-scoring single to win it for Kansas City. In the contest, Gossett was 2 for 6 with 2 singles.
"Every loss stings," said Brooklyn manager Alfonso Rosas. "This one is no exception."
