Krapp Puts Spell on Indianapolis
Saturday, August 15th, 1914
It wasn't easy but the Buffalo Blues made it look that way.
Starter Gene Krapp shut out the Indianapolis Hoosiers despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Buffalo Blues cruised to victory, 4-0. Krapp allowed only 2 hits and rang up 4 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
Up to now Krapp has compiled an ERA of 2.19 with a 14-14 mark over 30 starts. He has 130 strikeouts in 250.2 innings and has held opponents to a .222 batting average.
