Fitzpatrick Hittin' on All Cylinders
Wednesday, September 9th, 1914
Ed Fitzpatrick punished the Chicago Whales today, leading the Packers to a 5-4 win. In doing so, Fitzpatrick hit for the cycle, tagging the Whales for 4 hits in 5 at-bats.
A player hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game is one of the more unusual feats in professional baseball and typically happens only a couple times per season.
"Well, I didn't expect that to happen," the Kansas City left fielder said after the game. "I got some great pitches and I hit their mistakes."
Fitzpatrick also had 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored in the game at Wrigley Field.
Ed Fitzpatrick tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off William Snow in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
So far this year Fitzpatrick has 7 home runs and a .261 batting average.
