Boston turned a good effort from starter Holt McDowell into a win over the Cincinnati Reds at Redland Field. The final score was 6-1. McDowell went the distance for Boston. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. Boston goes to 88-55. The win puts them 6½ games up in their division.
Ty Cobb hit a bases-clearing triple off Elmer Ponder in the top of the fifth, which put the Braves in front, 3-1. Cobb had 1 walk, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 1 for 4.
