Pirates Lose to Cardinals in Walk Off
|
In a low-scoring contest, St. Louis pitcher Rube Benton was marvelous in his team's 1-0 win. Benton, the winner, moves to 25-13. He threw 9 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. With the win, St. Louis raised its record to 88-65.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 0-0, left fielder Walton Cruise won it for St. Louis. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Cruise hit a 2-2 changeup from Ben Harris for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 1-0 win.
"This joint was rocking," said Benton.
