Carson Flummoxes Pirates in 2-1 Win
|
West Side Park was the site of a tense game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs.
Al Carson never let the Pirates get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the Cubs to a win, 2-1. The loss puts Pittsburgh at 8-10.
Carson was effective for Chicago, seldom allowing the Pirates to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 118 pitches over 9 innings. He limited Pittsburgh to just 1 run on 4 hits.
"We had a good game plan," Carson said, "and we were able to execute it."
