|
Rube Benton came out firing strikes and when the game ended, the St. Louis Cardinals hurler had struck out 7, leading St. Louis past the Chicago Cubs, 2-0. Benton allowed just 3 hits in the ballgame.
"I'm glad that one is in the rearview mirror," said Chicago manager Mike McCarver.
To date this season Benton is 3-4 with 7 starts and an ERA of 1.68 with 42 strikeouts in 59 innings.
