Reds Wrest Win from Cubs, 2-1
|
Cincinnati Reds starter Matt Clark was in fine form. He led his team to victory over the Chicago Cubs, 2-1. In 9 innings, Clark surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. The Cubs, now 18-24, have lost 6 in a row.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Bill Rariden had a chance to end it. Chicago pitcher Al Carson had other ideas. But with one out, Rariden hit a sacrifice fly. The Reds had the win.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Chicago skipper Mike McCarver, "and it cost us."
