Red Sox Improve to 30-27 with 6-1 Win
|
The St. Louis Browns and Boston Red Sox riveted fans at Fenway Park .
Boston turned a good effort from starter Jim Buchanan into a win over the St. Louis Browns at Fenway Park . The final score was 6-1. Buchanan, now 7-6, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.
Red Downey had a big bases-clearing double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Boston leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Bob Shawkey and swatted a double to left. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 5-0.
Buchanan called the win "a collective effort."
With the win, the Red Sox have a record of 30-27.
