Chicago right fielder Elmer Smith contributed to his team's 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians. Smith went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the White Sox. Scott Perry got credit for the win, improving to 5-2. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Red Hoff converted his 4th save in 7 tries.

Smith's nice game included a clutch solo home run in the top of the ninth.

Smith told the Chicago Gazette: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
