Victory Pushes Cardinals Record to 43-28
In a low-scoring affair between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander was the difference between victory and defeat. The St. Louis right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Cardinals win. St. Louis now has a record of 43-28 with the win.

With runs few and far between, the Cardinals had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for St. Louis came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when center fielder George Maisel delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Red Nelson and made the score 3-2, Cardinals. Maisel went 2 for 3 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.

"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Maisel said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
