Indians Slip Past St. Louis, 5-4
|
Cleveland Indians starter Stan Dougan pitched effectively against the St. Louis Browns at Sportsman's Park IV. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 5-4 win. Dougan went 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 7, and struck out 3. His record improves to 2-0. Dick Rudolph nailed down his 1st save.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Joe Birmingham to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Indians on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said St. Louis manager Ducky Hemp. "But we decided not to take it."
St. Louis falls to 4-4.
