Pirates, Seaton Stonewall Chicago, 5-0
|
The Chicago Cubs had no answer today for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Tom Seaton. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 5-0. Chicago managed only 2 hits off Seaton, who had 4 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Seaton got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Pirates fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
This year Seaton has gone 12-8 with an ERA of 2.54 and has 73 strikeouts in 180.2 innings.
