Athletics Need Extra Frames to Get Past Red Sox
|
Philadelphia Athletics starter Carl Weilman was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Boston Red Sox, 4-3. The winning pitcher was Weilman, now 2-1. He tossed 9 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 4. The loss puts Boston at 4-5.
Having an impact for Philadelphia was Nap Lajoie. In the top of the tenth inning, the 40-year old second baseman had a run-scoring single to make the score 4-3, Athletics.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Weilman. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
