Browns Suffer 7-4 Home Loss
Boston and St. Louis duked it out and the Red Sox came out victorious.

The Boston Red Sox topped the St. Louis Browns, 7-4, the lion's share of the credit going to right fielder Red Downey. On the day, Downey was 2 for 4 with a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Red Sox. Rube Evans was the winning pitcher. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The Red Sox took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the sixth. Downey had the clutch at-bat. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a 2-run single.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Downey said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

The win boosts the Red Sox to 44-48. The loss puts the Browns at 36-58.
