Cubs Top Reds in Extras, 5-3
|
The Cubs grabbed a win, 5-3, at Redland Field, overcoming a fine effort from Cincinnati pitcher Matt Clark. Clark went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. Ed Karger, now 1-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Hank Robinson recorded the save, his 1st.
In the top of the seventh, Chicago shortstop Henry Scharnweber hit a run-scoring double to left field. The clutch hit made it, 2-1, Cubs.
"It was a solid team effort," Scharnweber said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
Now 5-8, the Reds have not played well this season.
