Senators Upend Athletics, 7-4
|
Steve O'Neill left his imprint on the 7-4 Washington win against the Philadelphia Athletics. O'Neill, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in doubles with 27, went 2 for 4 with a triple and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Al Bonner. He tossed 126 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. The win elevated the Senators to 69-58.
An important at-bat for Washington came with one out in the top of the first. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, O'Neill hit a 2-run single, which contributed to the Senators win.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," O'Neill told the Washington Gazette. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
