The Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Indians, 5-3, in AL action at Somers Park. Detroit pitcher Walter Johnson had a standout performance. Johnson went 9.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 10 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 13-5. The win gives Detroit a season record of 77-59.
A key moment came in the top of the tenth inning when Tigers third baseman Tex Wisterzil socked a 1-1 sinker to left for a 2-run single, putting Detroit up, 5-3.
