Robins Throttled by Cardinals, 2-1
|
The Brooklyn Robins got a superb performance from pitcher Babe Ruth, but the St. Louis Cardinals still won the game, 2-1. Ruth threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. St. Louis starter Rube Kroh was credited with the win after throwing 137 pitches over 8.1 innings. His record now stands at 22-11. Roy Witherup converted his 7th save in 10 tries.
Sherry Magee came through for St. Louis in the bottom of the first. With two out, Magee victimized Babe Ruth with a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put St. Louis on top, 2-0.
"Runs were at a premium," said St. Louis manager John Hartgraves.
With the victory, the Cardinals upped their record to 77-61.
