8-6 Win Gets Washington to 76-63
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the St. Louis Browns and Washington Senators get after it.
Zack Wheat helped his team muscle past the St. Louis Browns, 8-6. In the game, the Washington left fielder went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Al Bonner, who threw 103 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 6 runs on 8 hits.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Senators had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when center fielder Benny Kauff hit a run-scoring double. The double came off Louis Drucke and made the score 3-1, Senators. Kauff was 1 for 4 with a double.
"We'll savor this win," Kauff told the Washington Gazette, "then get ready for the next game."
St. Louis has now lost 9 consecutive games.
