Yankees Beat St. Louis, 5-4
|
No one was more impactful than Les Mann in the 5-4 New York win over St. Louis. Mann, who is tied for 4th in the AL in home runs with 6, was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times. Ed Summers got credit for the win, improving to 22-11. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 9 innings. The losing streak for St. Louis has now reached 11 games.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 4-4, first baseman Mike Donlin won it for New York. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Donlin hit a 2-2 fastball from Dutch Leonard for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 5-4 win.
"This place went bonkers at the end," Donlin said.
