Yankees Drop Contest, 8-3, to Cleveland
The New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

With second baseman Heinie Zimmerman leading the charge, the Cleveland Indians defeated the New York Yankees, 8-3, at Brush Stadium (AL). Zimmerman, who finished 2nd in the AL in extra base hits with 55 last year, was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Cleveland starter Doc Crandall was credited with the win after throwing 124 pitches over 9 innings. His record now stands at 25-12.

The Yankees had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Indians going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old center fielder Hack Miller came to the plate. Miller hit a 2-run triple on a first pitch fastball from New York hurler Ed Walsh. It was Miller's 4th triple of the year.

Zimmerman told the Cleveland Observer: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."

With the win, Cleveland pushed its record to 87-61.
