Cardinals Cuff Robins, 11-2
|
St. Louis shortstop Jim Viox made his presence felt in the 11-2 Cardinals triumph over the Brooklyn Robins. Viox was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Rube Benton picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-5. He struck out 6 in 9 innings. The win gives St. Louis a season record of 21-16.
In the top of the sixth inning of a 0-0 tie, St. Louis right fielder Sherry Magee hit a 2-run single. It broke the deadlock and put St. Louis on top, 2-0.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said St. Louis manager John Hartgraves.
