Athletics Earn 3-2 Win Versus Senators
|
The Philadelphia Athletics picked up a win at Shibe Park, knocking off the Washington Senators, 3-2. Starting pitcher Bobby Keefe played a key role in the triumph. In 9 innings, Keefe surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Yes, it was a win for Philadelphia; but their 13-33 record is still nothing to boast about.
Bobby Byrne, who led the AL in triples with 18 in 1907, won the game with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth. In the contest, the Philadelphia shortstop went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk.
"This was a tough loss," said Washington manager Zachery Marchese. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
