Cubs Clip Giants, 2-1
|
The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at West Side Park, taking down the New York Giants, 2-1. Starting pitcher Charlie Schmutz was a big reason why. Schmutz went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4. His record improves to 5-5. Chicago is now riding a 3-game win streak.
In the bottom of the third, left fielder Bert Daniels hit a run-scoring single to center. The single, which was hit off of Richard Kauffman, gave Chicago a 2-0 lead.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Daniels said after the game.
