Giants Turn Back Cincinnati, 5-4
|
Cincinnati third baseman Frank LaPorte had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-4, to New York at Brush Stadium (NL). LaPorte was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk. Edgar Doty, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-4. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Tim McCabe earned the save, his 8th in 8 tries.
Frank Schulte, who finished 3rd in the NL in home runs with 8 in 1912, chipped in for New York with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"Getting the win feels nice," said Schulte. "More importantly, I had a good game."
