Groom Spins 1-0 Shutout Against Chicago
|
Bob Groom of the New York Giants was cool and collected on the mound, leading his club to a shutout victory over the Chicago Cubs, 1-0.
"He was mixing his pitches real well and keeping his composure on the mound," New York manager Dennis Pickering said later. "When Bob does that, good things happen."
The right-hander had 7 strikeouts, 3 walks and allowed 5 hits in the win.
Groom has gone 2-1 this season with an ERA of 1.48 and 30 strikeouts in 42.2 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .170 against him.
