Phillies Upend Reds, 5-2
|
Philadelphia and Cincinnati duked it out and the Phillies came out victorious.
The Philadelphia Phillies picked up a win at Redland Field, knocking off the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2. Starting pitcher Jim Shaw played a key role in the triumph. Shaw got the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 6 hits and walked 6 over 7.2 innings. Shaw allowed 2 runs.
The game was on the line with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but John Taff didn't flinch. With a runner on 1st and Cincinnati trailing 3-2, Taff retired Tommy Griffith to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Taff, with a wink.
The triumph puts Philadelphia at 47-46 for the season.
