Boston Drops Philadelphia, 5-1
|
In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
Starting pitcher Blaine Thomas was a major factor in the 5-1 Boston Braves triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies. In 7 innings, Thomas surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 6. He allowed 1 run.
With runs few and far between, the Braves had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Boston came in the top of the first inning, when catcher Lee Magee delivered a 2-run single. The single was hit off Jim Shaw and made the score 2-0, Braves. Magee went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Magee.
Boston leads the NL by 3½ games.
