Phillies Get Past Cincinnati for 3-2 Win
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Cincinnati Reds, 3-2, in NL action at Baker Bowl. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia pitcher and Factoryville, Pennsylvania, native Christy Mathewson. John Taff picked up the win in relief for Philadelphia, while Jack Coombs took the loss. The win elevated the Phillies to 56-55.

Bruno Betzel found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the ninth. Facing Cincinnati hurler Jack Coombs, the 20-year-old second baseman hit a walk-off run-scoring double. His 15th double of the season put the Phillies on top, 3-2.

"We'll savor this win," Betzel told the Philadelphia Citizen, "then get ready for the next game."
