The Chicago White Sox got a good effort from starter Dick Crutcher in defeating the New York Yankees at Comiskey Park. The final score was 4-2. Crutcher picked up the win for Chicago, going 8.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 12-11. Red Hoff was credited with the save, his 10th in 13 tries.
In the bottom of the sixth inning of a 2-2 tie, Chicago second baseman Art Butler reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It broke the deadlock and put Chicago on top, 3-2.
After the game, Chicago manager George Stallings applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The 6th-place White Sox are 52-67.
