Red Sox Fizzle in 1-0 Loss to Tigers
|
The Boston Red Sox had no answer today for Detroit Tigers pitcher Bill Steen. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 1-0. Boston managed only 7 hits off Steen, who had 6 strikeouts.
The extraordinarily popular Steen got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
"Tigers fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
Checking out his stats for the season, Steen has racked up 3 wins and 4 losses in 1 starts, 1.63 ERA and struck out 35 batters in 60.2 innings.
