White Sox Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Yankees, 7-4
|
Benefiting from John Knight's productive game, the Chicago White Sox downed the New York Yankees, 7-4. Knight was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the White Sox. Chicago reliever Red Hoff picked up the win, upping his record to 4-10. John Schultz was saddled with the loss. The 6th-place White Sox improved to 63-78.
With the game tied, 4-4, in the top of the ninth, Knight had a key at-bat for Chicago. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Knight, who is tied for 10th in the AL in home runs with 4, hit a 3-run home run off John Schultz, making the score 7-4, White Sox.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Knight told the Chicago Gazette. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
