Senators Drop Contest, 6-3, to New York
|
New York and Washington duked it out and the Yankees came out victorious.
New York Yankees starter Ed Summers pitched effectively against the Washington Senators at National Park. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 6-3 win. Summers went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. His record improves to 1-0.
In the top of the fifth, New York third baseman Les Mann had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 3rd and two out, Mann stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 5-3, New York. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I'm glad to get the first one under my belt," said Summers. "It's a good start to the season."
The Yankees raised their record to 2-0.
