Senators Top Athletics in Extras, 3-2
|
Washington Senators starter Bill Hogg was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Philadelphia Athletics, 3-2. Washington reliever Ben Tincup got the win, raising his record to 1-0. George Disch was tagged with the loss. The Athletics, now 5-10, continue their slow start.
With a runner on 1st in the bottom of the ninth, Fred Merkle delivered the knockout blow when he hit a run-scoring double to win it for Washington. In the contest, Merkle went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"Bill is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Washington manager Zachery Marchese.
