Tigers Top Senators, 3-2
|
The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at Navin Field, knocking off the Washington Senators, 3-2. Starting pitcher Stan Coveleski played a key role in the triumph. The Tigers have hit the ground running, raising their record to 17-8. While it's still too soon to talk about Detroit hoisting their 2nd World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the 11th, Red J Smith had a chance to be the hero. Washington pitcher Ray Tift had other ideas. But with one out, Smith reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. The Tigers had themselves a dramatic win.
"I was determined to go the distance," said Coveleski.
