Washington Makes It 6 Straight with 9-5 Win
|
Bill Sweeney made an impact in the 9-5 Washington win over Detroit. Sweeney, who led the AL in stolen bases with 73 in 1911, was 4 for 6 with 4 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The triumph puts Washington at 19-17 for the season.
Washington used the timely hitting of Howard Mundorff to capture the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 11th inning to put the Senators on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Mundorff.
