Phillies Topple Cubs with Late Rally
|
Philadelphia and Chicago duked it out and the Phillies came out victorious.
The Philadelphia Phillies dumped the Chicago Cubs, 11-9, in large part due to right fielder Elmer Flick. On the day, Flick was 4-6 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Phillies. Philadelphia reliever Ed Reulbach picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Ben DeMott was saddled with the loss. Lou Fiene locked down his 1st save.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Harry Heilmann came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Chicago pitcher Ben DeMott, he hit a 0-1 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 11-9.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Flick.
The Phillies improve their record to 25-27 with the win over Chicago.
