3-1 Win Gets New York to 10-2
|
The New York Yankees picked up a win at Fenway Park , knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 3-1. Starting pitcher Red Ames was a big reason why. Ames went the distance for New York. He gave up 1 run on 8 hits. New York, now 10-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
With runs few and far between, the Yankees had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for New York came in the top of the second inning, when third baseman Eddie Brown delivered a 2-run home run. The home run was hit off Phil Douglas and made the score 2-0, Yankees. Brown was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Yankees manager Tom Loftus, "I like our chances."
