Yankees Turn Back Athletics, 5-4
The New York Yankees withstood an impressive performance by Philadelphia right fielder Johnny Bates to defeat the Athletics, 5-4, at Brush Stadium (AL). Bates went 1 for 2 with 3 walks. He scored 3 times. Ed Walsh picked up the win, improving his season record to 4-1. He struck out 2 in 8.2 innings. Ralph Caldwell earned the save for New York, his 1st of the year.

With runs few and far between, the Yankees had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for New York came in the bottom of the fourth inning, when second baseman Fred Snodgrass delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Carl Weilman and made the score 3-1, Yankees. Snodgrass went 3 for 4 with 3 singles.

"I like our moxie," said Yankees manager Tom Loftus.

The Athletics fall to 6-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1915 season.
