Yankees Go 10 Innings to Beat Boston, 2-1
|
New York starter Ed Summers put a stranglehold on the Boston offense. The right-hander had complete command of his knuckleball in leading the Yankees to a 2-1 win. The victory gives New York a record of 40-25.
Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Mike Donlin's at-bat in the top of the tenth was crucial. With one out, the New York first baseman hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"Games like this one keep the antacid makers in business," quipped Boston manager Jimmy Collins.
